The “NJ Blogalopolis” originally featured at edisongrassroots.com has been reconstructed as a WordPress blog, which you’re now viewing. It may end up moving to Blogspot now that I realized I can embed RSS feeds there. I’m just not sure if it’s worth the time and effort to move it twice!
The main draw of the NJ Blogalopolis is its “mega-feeds,” which combine posts from a a collection of blogs for various blog categories. You’ll find the links to both the XML and Feedburner versions of those mega-feeds at the top of each page.
I’m considering removing the Feedburner versions (or at least their links). Feedburner is tempermental. It tends to gets stuck when a feed grows too large.
The only advantage of the Feeburner version that I can see is that it allows the user to easily add the feed as a widget to a customized home page, such as Netvibes, Yahoo, Google, etc. But the odds are that if a user has the computer skills to design their own customized home page, then they can probably figure out how to add the feed using the XML version via some sort of custom widget or gadget.
On the website it was easy to link each mega-feed’s respective body of blogs, their feeds, and About Us pages. It has proven quite a chore to copy all of that content over to the blog. So I only copied that material only for several pages. The remainder of the pages I have supplied a Word document for, into which I could much more easily paste all of the content from the website’s pages. All you have to do is open the document and browse it. It takes but an extra few seconds.
Edisongrassroots.com, which was originally created in a website format, is in the process of moving to Blogspot (see here). The transition has been be completed and the website will be discontinued on Monday, July 11th, 2011. The blog will replace it. I’ve moved only the most popular elements of the website to the new blog format (i.e., the sections that consistently received the highest number of views).
Anyway, thanks for checking us out, and enjoy browsing the NJ Blogalopolis!
